Indie Watch: "KASAMBAHAY" Premieres June 28 at UP Diliman

Watching old-school Pinoy horror movies had a great impact on Julius Roden when he was growing up. Even though special effects used back then were still crude, they proved to be effective in scaring the audience--a style that will be revived by the 26-year-old producer, writer and director of Kasambahay.

This new horror flick was created by Julius to pay tribute to the horror films made during the ‘70s and ‘80s. He points out that the cinematography, soundtrack, ADR (additional dialogue recording) and overall presentation of the scenes were all influenced heavily by films made in the past.

Julius of Pagilas Entertainment Productions works as an English tutor to Koreans. According to him, the proceeds of Kasambahay will be used to fund Pinoy Telenovelas Productions, which aims to provide the salary of part-time English tutors for Filipino children, high school students, and even adults.

Synopsis:
Cathee (Alyne Torres) has declined her longtime boyfriend's marriage proposal and the chance to migrate to Canada. Instead, she chose to stay in the Philippines to help other English tutors get high paying jobs. Meanwhile, one of her online English tutors Sally (Lydia Durian) has been suffering from a failing marriage. Cathee and Sally will then discover a series of horrific and terrifying events.
