Sarah Geronimo Covers Preview Magazine October 2008 Issue
Dramatic eye makeup and stunning coats from Burberry London's Autumn-Winter collection—flown in especially for this shoot—transform Sarah into a stunning sophisticate with a Goth chic edge.
It may be a departure from the Sarah everyone is used to, but there are many subtle changes happening in her career. For one, Sarah is slowly blossoming into the 20-year-old that she is. Her new album Just Me... Sarah offers a different sound.
Her hard work has obviously paid off: her most recent movie A Very Special Love is a certified box-office hit. Success in both singing and acting is a rare feat for any artist Sarah's age, and there isn't anyone quite like her in the industry today.
Read more about Sarah Geronimo in the October 2008 issue of Preview Magazine, now available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide at P125 per copy.

Bb. Pilipinas World Janina San Miguel Backs-Out From Ms. World 2008 Pageant
Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) issued an official statement Monday night as follows:
“The untimely demise of her grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title… BPCI wishes to express its gratitude to Ms. San Miguel for this act of graciousness and concern for the country. They also wish her well in her future endeavors.”
This year’s first runner-up and a crowd favorite Danielle Castano will take over Janina’s duties as Bb. Pilipinas-World. Pageant enthusiasts were disappointed earlier this year when Danielle was not crowned as one of the three winners. But since she placed first runner-up, she will replace Janina as our representative in the upcoming Miss World pageant.
It’s interesting to note that 9 years ago, a similar thing happened. Miriam Quiambao was only first runner-up at that time and became a replacement for the reigning Bb. Pilipinas Universe. From being first runner-up in Bb. Pilipinas, she ended up winning first runner-up in Miss Universe 1999. Will the same thing happen to Danielle? Or even win the very first Miss World crown for the country?
ASAP '08 Kanto Boys
The boys, according to Billy Joe, is the local version of the world-famous international boy group simply known as the "Kanto Boys".
Piolo Pascual Reacts About "Manila" Controversy
Piolo has been very open in saying that Manila is "inspired" by Ishmael Bernal's 1980 movie Manila By Night and Lino Brocka's 1979 masterpiece Jaguar (slang for guwardiya or security guard).
Manila By Night was written and directed by the late Ishmael Bernal, with input from Ricky Lee and other screenwriters. Jaguar, on the other hand, is credited to both Ricky Lee and Pete Lacaba.
Piolo is still positive that the issue about his indie movie would be settled soon. "Tapos na kameng mag-shoot and nasa post-production na, I'm gonna see the rough cut tonight. I hope they'll be able to iron things out with Mr. Ricky Lee and Mr. Pete Lacaba."
When asked for his comment about it, Piolo was honest enough to say, "I'd rather not comment about it because I only found out about it yesterday. So, I haven't really discussed it with my director. I'm meeting up with him tonight, si Direk Adolf Alix Jr. But I'm praying na maayos naman."
In the end, he is still positive about Manila. "I'm also excited about the project, it's the first time I produce. I hope it turns out well."
Piolo will be portraying two roles in the movie: William, a drug addict who is trying to restore his self-worth by reestablishing his relationship with the people around him; and Philip, a bodyguard employed to look over a mayor's son, only to be disillusioned in the end after a series of unfortunate events lead him to discover the underworld.
Sam Milby Nervous About His Rockoustic Heartthrob Concert
The 24-year-old singer-actor blamed his fear of performing solo in front of the public for feeling "extremely nervous" about his The Rockoustic Heartthrob concert on October 25 at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City.
"Kasi ako 'yong type na may stage fright," Sam told the press in an interview during the launching og Star Magic's 2009 Catalogue yesterday, September 28, at the lobby of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City.
Sam added that he's not used to having a performing solo on stage. In fact, his past major concerts were with fellow "heartthrob" Piolo Pascual.
"Nasanay na ako, mas kumportable ako kung may kasama ako sa stage. Pero ano, siyempre ito 'yong first major solo concert ko so... Malaki 'yong venue, maraming tao, 'tapos ako lang 'yong sa stage at ang daming mga kanta."
Despite this, Sam still tries not to feel uneasy by thinking about the songs that he will be performing during the concert.
"Excited naman ako kasi maganda 'yong line-up ng songs, so nag-aaral ako. May mga rock songs, mga songs na galing childhood ko, parang ganyan. May mga acoustic, may mga rock."
So, has Sam started rehearsing for the big concert?
"Wala pa!" exclaimed Sam. "Wala pa nga, e, kasi wala pa akong time kasi 'yong Dyosa, at saka tinapos ko na 'yong indie film ko na Cul de Sac. Sobrang busy ako sa indie film at saka Dyosa at saka may iba-ibang raket din."
Sam knows the he only has less than three weeks to prepare for his first solo concert. This may be the reason he blurted out during the interview, "Sana mag-start na 'yong rehearsals kasi kailangan ko ng maraming-maraming rehearsal."
Sam also admitted that he never imagined himself performing in such concert event when he was still starting out in show business.
"Feeling ko hindi ko kaya. Feeling ko, hindi pa ako handa," said Sam. "Pero ngayon, I need to get used to it kasi stage fright talaga ako. So, kailangan kong masanay na nasa harap ako ng tao."
Star Magic Launches 2009 Catalogue with an All-white Affair
Ang next 22 main stars ayon sa pagkakasunod ay sina Bea Alonzo ("Stunning Swan"), John Lloyd Cruz ("The Actor's Actor"), Kristine Hermosa ("The Reluctant Star"), Diether Ocampo ("The Activist"), Rica Peralejo ("Educating Rica"), Sam Milby ("Certified A-Lister"), Kim Chiu ("Everybody's Princess"), Gerald Anderson ("Boy Wonder"), Roxanne Guinoo ("Child Woman"), Jake Cuenca ("The Good Bad Boy"), Angelica Panganiban ("The Real Deal"), Zanjoe Marudo ("Man of the Moment"), Shaina Magdayao ("The Sweetheart"), Jon Avila ("Heroic Hunk"), Rafael Rosell ("Independent Spirit"), Maja Salvador ("Rising Thespian"), Jay-R Siaboc ("Wild Card"), Yeng Constantino ("Music Heartthrob"), Erich Gonzales ("The Good Girl"), Nikki Gil ("The Natural"), Pokwang ("Funny Lady"), at Vina Morales ("The Dynamo").
Kris Aquino Reveals How She Consumed Her Endorsement Fees
Kris, on her text messages to Jo-Ann Maglipon, Yes! Editor-in-Chief, mentioned where the big portion of her talent fees from her endorsements actually go.
"The bulk of my advertising this year went to Baby James's educational fund (pre-paid lump sum from Grade 1 to 4th year college), his wealth-managed trust fund which we'll receive after college graduation and Josh's wealth-managed fund as well," said Kris.
"Josh will always need special care," Kris continued, "so I promised my mom [former President Corazon Aquino] to make sure that he'll always be ok financially. He is always her top worry."
The former Philippine president was diagnosed with colon cancer earlier this year and Kris told Ms. Maglipon that she also helps in the medical expenses.
"I take care of some of my mom's medical expenses because it makes me feel good but she's forever wanting to pay me back," she said.
Although Kris did not mention exactly where the money came from, she said that, "James has fulfilled his promise to his family to build a bigger home in their province.
"Thank you for this recognition," she told Ms. Maglipon.
Kris emerged on top of the YES! list because she is "without a doubt the queen of product endorsements, with 21 products to her name."
According to YES!, Kris is a favorite of advertisers because "she is very easy to work with, and is very professional, arriving for a shoot prepared, with her lines memorized."
But Kris's best asset is that "she connects well with consumers, whatever bracket of society they belong to."
Britney Spear - Womanizer Music and Lyrics
Where you from, how's it going?
I know you
Gotta clue, what you’re doing?
You can play brand new to all the other chicks out here
But I know what you are, what you are, baby
Look at you
Gettin' more than just re-up
Baby, you
Got all the puppets with their strings up
Fakin' like a good one, but I call 'em like I see 'em
I know what you are, what you are, baby
Womanizer
Boy, don't try to front
I know just what you are
Womanizer
Daddy-O
You got the swagger of champions
Too bad for you
Just can't find the right companion
I guess when you have one too many, makes it hard
It could be easy, but that's who you are, baby
Lollipop
Must mistake me as a sucker
To think that I
Would be a victim not another
Say it, play it how you wanna
But no way I'm ever gonna fall for you, never you, baby
Maybe if we both lived in a different world
It would be all good, and maybe I could be ya girl
But I can't 'cause we don't

Survivor Philippines Update: Castaways Voted Out Emerson Dino
Emerson became the target of his tribemates after his behavior during the first immunity challenge and his conflict with farmer's daughter Vevherly Gador. But it was not easy for the rest of the Naak tribe to send him packing.
Basketball player JC Tiuseco cried upon realizing that Survivor Philippines is more than just a game and it became so hard to eat one of their own. Although they've been together in the island for only six days, they already managed to develop close ties with each other.
In the end, they had no choice but to say goodbye to one of them. Emerson became the second castaway to be voted out after receiving five of the eight votes.
In his exit interview, Emerson defended his actions. He said that the people should not judge him on what he did during his short stint in Survivor Philippines because it's different when you're actually playing the game.
Next week, the remaining 16 castaways will engage in another set of challenges to determine who will be voted off next.

GMA-7 Executives Reveal Upcoming TV Shows
They shared to the press their plans for the rest of the year and the first quarter of 2009. Before 2008 ends, six new shows will premiere and a new season of a game show will begin.
PRIMETIME TELEBABAD SHOWS:
La Lola - A hit comedy series that originated in Argentina. This Rhian Ramos-JC de Vera starrer will premiere on October 13 replacing Regine Velasquez's Ako Si Kim Samsoon.
Gagambino - Another Carlo Caparas classic featuring Dennis Trillo in the title role. It will premiere on October 20 replacing Dyesebel starring Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.
Luna Mystica - Mark Anthony Fernandez and Heart Evangelista will team up for the first time in this romance-fantasy series. This is scheduled to premiere on November 17 and will replace Richard Gutierrez's Codename: Asero, in which Heart is also the leading lady.
DRAMARAMA SA HAPON:
Saan Darating Ang Umaga - Based on a 1983 Viva films movie directed by Maryo J. de los Reyes, the TV version will star Lani Mercado in the role of Nida Blanca and Yasmien Kurdi playing the role originally portrayed by Maricel Soriano. It will replace Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan in mid-November.
GAME SHOWS:
Family Feud - One of the longest-running game shows around the world. The game show's return to the Philippines will be hosted by Richard Gomez. This will premiere on October 13. Family Feud will occupy the timeslot of Arnell Ignacio's Gobingo.
Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade 5? - This Janno Gibbs's educational game show will be back for its second season on November 15. It will take over the timeslot of Celebrity Duets, which will have its finals on November 8.
My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad - A franchise of the reality TV sports show created by Survivor's Mark Burnett. In this show, a number of dads will be paired with their kids and they will compete in each episode playing stunts and answering questions. GMA-7 is still on the lookout for the show's host, but it is already set to premiere on November 23 after the second season of Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok ends.
FUTURE PROJECTS:
Year 2009 promises to be a bigger year for the Kapuso network because of the gigantic projects lined up in the first quarter alone.
First, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will still be paired together in their next primetime series. Ms. Lilybeth Rasonable revealed that Dingdong and Marian will star in the TV adaptation of the 1980 drama movie Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang, which starred Vivian Velez and the late Eddie Rodriguez.
The lady executives of GMA-7 also confirmed the reports that Richard Gutierrez will don the mask of Zorro as his next project after Codename: Asero.
Another exciting project of the Kapuso network next year is the TV adaptation of Totoy Bato, which starred the King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe, Jr. In the new version, the title role will be portrayed by action superstar Robin Padilla with possibly boxing champ Manny Pacquiao in the cast. But what's so surprising about Totoy Bato is Robin's leading lady—Regine Velasquez. This will be the follow-up project of the Asia's Songbird after the highly-successful Ako Si Kim Samsoon.
Another Koreanovela will be adapted for Philippine TV next year—the hit drama All About Eve. A story of two rival journalists, All About Eve will star Sunshine Dizon and Iza Calzado, who have worked together before in Impostora.
Aside from All About Eve, GMA-7 has also bought the rights of two other Koreanovelas: the romantic comedies Full House and Coffee Prince.
Ms. Wilma Galvante revealed that Full House is really intended for Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera, but the casting might change depending on the availability of the two major Kapuso stars. As for Coffee Prince, GMA-7 has yet to decide who will play the lead roles.
As for the highly-anticipated Captain Barbell Meets Darna, Ms. Galvante assured that it will finally push through next year; although she did not disclose whether Richard will reprise his role as Captain Barbell or who will play Darna.
"Walang Papalit sa Naging Pagsasama Namin ni Bea." - John Lloyd Cruz
But the movie "A Very Special Love" which paired John Lloyd to young actress Sarah Geronimo proved a lot of showbiz followers wrong. And due to the movie's highly successful turn-out in the box-office, John Lloyd announces after the press who attended the pizza party sponsored by Greenwich at the Rufino Plaza in Makati City that their follow-up movie is now in the works.
"I think it's safe to say na susundan namin ang A Very Special Love. As of today, it's been confirmed. I'm very happy to announce na magkakaroon ng sequel ang A Very Special Love," told John about his next movie with Sarah.
But this doesn't mean that it will be the end of John Lloyd-Bea loveteam. According to John Lloyd, "Hindi naman mapapalitan 'yon ever, eh. Walang papalit sa naging pagsasama namin ni Bea, the same way na walang pwedeng makapagpahinto sa nagiging pagsasama namin ni Sarah.
"I mean, the more, the merrier...parang, sa mas marami kang babae na puwedeng maiparehas, mas maganda. Sa tingin ko naman, wala namang magdi-disagree doon. Ako, I'm thankful lang na nai-partner ako kay Bea, nai-partner ako kay Sarah, nag-work pareho." added John Lloyd.

2008 Yes! Magazine Top 20 Celebrity Endorsers - Complete List
According to YES! Editor-in-Chief Jo-Ann Maglipon, this list is not written in stone. It’s an independent ranking using multiple sources, pursued fairly, and computed with disinterest since this is a topic wrapped with strict confidentiality.
And how Yes! staff headed by Ms. Maglipon computed the results?
They counted the celebrity's number of endorsements and then asked around the industry about the talent fee. The YES! team then multiplied the number of endorsements versus the rate card in order to come out with an annual number.
Please take note that the ranking wasn’t based on the number of endorsements but on the total (approximate) amount paid to the celebrity for billboard, television, and print advertisements.
Here are the Top 20 Celebrity Endorsers of 2008:
1. Kris Aquino - 22 tri-media endorsements
2. Sharon Cuneta - 5 tri-media endorsements

Sarah Geronimo Meets Backstreet Boys Howie Dorough
In an abs-cbnnews interview with the two, Geronimo and Dorough revealed that it was their first time to meet since they recorded their song “I'll Be There” separately.
"Actually this is the first time I got to meet Howie. We didn't record together," Geronimo said.
"Unfortunately that time I was in between Backstreet Boys tours and I had a very short time to do it. So, Christian de Walden actually came to me in Orlando where I was back home with my family for a couple days off and I recorded my vocals there. I already heard her sing on it and I was already singing with her on the demo," Dorough said.
Dorough said that he is very happy to do a project with Geronimo.
"She's a lovely lady. When I was asked about doing a project with her about four or five months ago by Christian de Walden I was very honored. I went online and I checked out on the internet and realized that she's a huge superstar here and around the world," he said.
"I was in Canada for Backstreet Boys on tour just a month ago in two different areas. I was at a different place where I bumped into some people from the Philippines and I said I was going to the Philippines they said 'ah for vacation' and I said 'I'm actually working with a girl name Sarah Geronimno' and they said 'Oh Sarah Geronimo!'. She's very popular, very, very famous around the world," said Dorough.
The male singer said that he finds Geronimo to be a very humble and sweet girl, while Geronimo confirmed her admiration for the Backstreet Boy.
"I'm a big, big fan super. Very happy. Isn't it obvious that I'm very happy. Happy and honored to work with you Howie Dorough," said Geronimo.
She said that it's actually another dream come true for her to be working with Dorough.
"I can't believe before I'm just listening to my walkman.... 'I want it that way'. Another dream comes true. I've only daydreamed about this and I never thought this would happen," Geronimo said.
Geronimo asked Dorough to try and eat the best Filipino dishes like chicken adobo, pork adobo, sinigang and kare-kare.
Dorough who just got married said that he will take time to try the dishes with his lovely wife. He said he hopes that he could go back to the country for another project.
"You have beautiful islands and people. We're here last time for our tour two or three years ago. I would love to come here and do more projects in the future," he said.
Before the interview ended Geronimo and Dorough invited the people to grab a copy of "Just Me."
"I think this album is a great album. It has original songs and I'm hoping everybody will get a copy of 'Just me,'" Geronimo said.
Geronimo and Dorough will have a music video of their song "I'll Be There."
On Sunday they will be together for autograph signing and a show at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Alma Moreno Faces Estafa Charge
Based on the report of GMANews.TV, an advertising firm called Media Arts Yielding Ads, Inc. (MAYA) accused Alma, or Vanessa Lacsamana-Marquez in real life, of violating the Anti-Bouncing Check Law (Batas Pambansa 22).
MAYA, through its legal counsel Benedicto Malcontento, said that Alma used the agency's services to do her campaign material for the 2007 elections, which cost more than P.3 million. Alma allegedly issued MAYA a bouncing check amounting to P390,000.
Alma admitted that she issued the said check as her payment for the services rendered by MAYA. However, in an interview with the tabloid Balita the actress-politician said that her campaign representative, named Lilibeth Peña, mismanaged the releasing of checks and failed to deposit the necessary amount to her bank account.
Meanwhile, Balita further reported that Parañaque City Assistant City Prosecutor Sheilaine Baes recommended Alma to post bail, which amounts to P30,000, for her temporary liberty.

Josef Elizalde Denies Gay Issue
The teenager clarified that the video was edited to appear that he and a guy friend kissed. The event in the video took place at a house of his friend during Christmas break last year. "We played the spin-the-bottle game," Josef began. "Sumakto sa akin yung bote, at sumakto rin sa isang friend ko. And then they dared us to take a shot of tequila with the lemon on my mouth. And after the shot he was supposed to get it from my mouth. Eh, pinuputol agad 'yung video tuwing magkadikit kami, they edited it."
Vina Morales is Pregnant
David Cook - Light On Music and Lyrics
Afraid it wouldn’t be enough
Just try to keep my spirits up
When there’s no point in grieving
Doesn’t matter anyway
Words could never make me stay
Words will never take my place
When you know I’m leaving
(Chorus)
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it’s late at night you can look inside
You won’t feel so alone
You know we’ve been down that road
What seems a thousand times before
My back to a closing door and my eyes to the seasons
That roll out underneath my heels
And you don’t know how bad it feels
To leave the only one that I have ever believed in
[Chorus]
Sometimes it feels like we’ve run out of luck
When the signal keeps on breaking up
When the wires cross in my brain
You’ll start my heart again
When I come along
Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera in GMA Films "One True Love"
“One True Love” is the working title of the upcoming romantic movie topbilled by Marimar and Dyesebel love team, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. The movie, which was formerly called “Amnesia”, was supposed to be shown last August but due to some schedule problems with its stars, it was moved to a November 2008 playdate.
Iza Calzado is also starring in “One True Love”. It is a joint venture of GMA Films and Regal Films and to be helmed by Mac Alejandre, the director of Joaquin Bordado. Today is the first day of shooting of the said romantic movie.

Blind Item: Is That You, Marian Rivera?

Mariah Carey Will Be Acting Again in the Movie "Push"
Director Lee Daniels was so impressed with her grit that he's cast her in "Push," in which she plays a Harlem social worker ministering to an obese, HIV-positive woman impregnated twice by her father.
That's not all. Mariah is also doing a Christmas musical.
It's about a town outside a city - perhaps not unlike Mariah's hometown of Huntington, L.I. - where a ruthless developer wants to turn it into one big mall.
"Mariah doesn't want to let that happen," says her producing partner Benny Medina. "Her character uses song and love to keep the Christmas spirit alive."
Selena Gomez - Fly To Your Heart Music Video
The movie’s soundtrack will be released October 14, a week before the DVD release and will contain songs from and inspired by the film. Tinker Bell will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on October 28.

A "Journey" (Not) To Remember by Arnel Pineda
Two minutes before Journey kicked off their world tour in February, with new singer Arnel Pineda, the whole thing nearly fell apart. “I told them I wanted to back out,” says the 41-year-old Filipino vocalist, whom the band discovered on YouTube. “[Journey guitarist] Neal Schon told me, ‘It’s too late now.’ He pushed me a little and said, ‘Go. Go sing for us.’” Pineda overcame his butterflies and took the stage in front of 20,000 fans in Chile, singing an hour of hits in a soaring voice incredibly similar to former Journey frontman Steve Perry. Since then, Pineda has played more than 63 concerts with Journey, including a current three-month trip through American amphitheaters, which has been averaging 13,000 people a night. The tour is the sixth-highest-grossing of the summer, and the band’s performances are as high-energy as they were during Journey’s heyday.
Unfortunately, Pineda isn’t finding the tour nearly as fulfilling as his bandmates are. He misses his girlfriend and son, and the grueling pace is grinding him down. “It’s very, very sad,” he says. “There are days I just break down and cry. This is a job I’m doing for my family. That’s all the consolation I’m getting.” Traveling around America isn’t what he expected. “It’s all buses, stage, microphone,” he says. “I never really get to go around and walk. They wake me up for soundcheck, then I wait until the show at nine. It’s a fantastic job, but at the same time it’s a curse. . . . I told Neal that the only thing that will make me quit this is if I get sick. I guess that’s the same reason Steve Perry bailed out.”
Just last summer, Pineda was fronting the Zoo, a band specializing in Eighties rock covers. YouTube clips of Pineda singing “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and “Faithfully” came to the attention of Schon, who had recently parted ways with Journey’s fourth lead singer, Jeff Scott Soto. “I told him, ‘You have to show your face so I can believe you,’ ” Pineda recalls of his first conversation with Schon. “I challenged him to talk to me on a Webcam.”
Within weeks, Pineda took his first trip to the U.S. and auditioned for the band in San Francisco. A few days later, he was hired. “Mr. Neal Schon picked me up and told me, ‘You got the job,’ ” Pineda says. “For a guy like me, it’s surreal — like some sort of miracle.” Quickly, the band cut two discs worth of material: one of new songs and another of rerecorded hits. “It was spooky, sitting behind the desk watching Arnel record these songs,” says keyboardist Jonathan Cain. “It was like going back in a time machine.” Since coming out in June, the album has sold 441,000 copies; it’s the band’s biggest hit since Perry left the group.
This all comes at a time when Journey’s work has re-entered the pop-culture landscape in surprising ways: Their 1981 smash “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” has made memorable appearances on The Sopranos and Laguna Beach, and Kanye West performed it nightly on his 2008 tour. “When you work at something long enough, things just sort of turn around,” Schon says. “I’m ear-to-ear smile every night.” But is he worried about his frontman? “He’s missing his family, missing his homeland, you know?” says Schon. “But he’s having a lot of fun, too.”
