GLEE Season 2 'Original Song' Episode Recap

The Warblers jump right into it this week performing Misery while throwing stacks of paper all around. Is someone going to clean that up? Kurt joins in reluctantly but is pretty bitter that it’s Blaine once again that has the solo. Don’t be bitter Kurt. He’s just very good at it. Kurt lets Blaine know how he feels but that’s only the beginning of Kurt’s problems. Pavarotti, the Warblers’ canary, has died. Kurt thinks it was a stroke but I personally think it was the Burberry cover he had covering the cage. Canaries tend to like to be able to breathe buddy.

Kurt wants to express his feelings of mourning for the fallen bird by singing Blackbird to the group. It’s a beautiful song but I’m pretty distracted by the fact it’s playing from a Casette player from like 1980. Where did they even get that? Somewhere in between being insulted and joining in backup during the song, Blaine falls for Kurt. Okay then. Attraction is a confusing thing I suppose. Blaine suggests that instead of his own solo at Regionals, he should do a duet with Kurt instead. And then the thing everyone and their cat has been talking about since last night happened. The Kurt/Blaine makeout session takes place after Blaine confesses his feelings. It happened.

In less than exciting news, Rachel’s songwriting still sucks. This time around she’s singing about eggs and being an only child or something. The quest for an original song to perform at Regionals has Will asking the kids to try their hands at it. A scorned Santana is first up to sing. She sings about Sam and his Trouty Mouth. LOL. She sounds and looks amazing but I’m torn between laughter and hypnosis while I stare at his mouth. Puck is next and he tries his own Lauren tribute song called Big Ass Heart. LOLLL everything about this song and performance is amazing and hilarious. Whoever wrote this deserves a medal. Mercedes also tries and fails so I guess it’s all up to Rachel which shouldn’t be too hard. Quinn has been acting like a huge bitch this entire episode with her Farrah Fawcett hair. She wants to be prom queen more than anything and if she has to crush Rachel to do it she will.

On the up side, this unleashes Rachel’s writing skills and she comes up with something amazing. Regionals arrives and the judges are ready to listen. I have to say my favorite judge is the Sarah Palin spoof done by special guest Kathy Griffin. Every one liner that came out of her mouth was hilarious. Sue, who is buddies with the judges, has Aural Intensity sing something about Jesus to insure a win. It may not be so easy. The Warblers perform Candles and Raise Your Glass. It’s sweet but nothing special. And now it’s Rachel’s turn to debut Get It Right. A beautiful ballad dedicated to Finn. That song alone should secure the win but they also sing Loser Like Me complete with confetti slushies at the end. How cute!

New Directions rightfully wins the competition and a butthurt Sue punches the old announcer until she flies through the air. Amazing.

Funniest Quotes of the Night:

Santana: Is that how people’s lips look where you com from in the south?

Puck: When she shops for groceries that heart gets its own damn cart.
