GLEE Season 2 'Sue Sylvester Shuffle' Recap

Cheerios are going to Nationals and Sue is as usual, unimpressed by amazing stunts and fireworks shooting out of boobage. I mean, who wouldn’t be? Pretty lackluster right? Sue wants to do the mother of all stunts and buys herself a canon to shoot a cheerleader across the football field. Despite common sense, danger, and the protests of most of the team, Sue makes it her mission to fire Brittany out of that canon.

The big championship football game is also coming up but the team has never been in worse shape. There is zero team unity, fights constantly breaking out, and Karofsky’s homophobia is kicking the bullying and slushying up some notches. Poor Artie gets slushy attacked by the entire team and this makes the Glee guys snap. Before they all kill each other, Beiste and Schue agree to force them all together. The football team is forced to join Glee for a week in the hopes some understanding and team unity will happen. I don’t know about you guys but it makes perfect sense to me to have Puckleberry perform Need You Now for the team. A country love song always inspired unity in my world. Shockingly, it doesn’t win the team over but Finn and Puck bury the hatchet.

Sue goes on a rampage throughout the school when her genius canon idea is shot down. I love when Sue rampages. She pulls the Cheerios from performing at the halftime show of the football game forcing Glee to take over. Sue makes the girls in the glee club choose; Glee or Cheerios. The Glee club combined with the football team and tons of zombie make up, practice a mashup of Thriller and Heads Will Roll. Surprisingly, Karofsky is good at Glee. He’s hiding his enjoyment but suggests additional performance warmups of She’s Not There. Don’t make me like you Karofsky.

The man surplus of Glee doesn’t last long once the football players get slushied by the hockey team. Why do they all have mullets? The guys come to their senses and quit Glee and as a result are not allowed to play in the football game. The team now doesn’t have enough players for the game and are pretty much screwed. There’s been a significant lack of Kurt and Blaine in this episode but we do get a fantastic scene. The Warblers are practicing for Regionals and are kicking ASS at it. Bills Bills Bills is their weapon of choice and they sound amazing. Afterwards, Kurt and Blaine hang out with Mercedes and Rachel and Blaine inadvertently gives the girls the idea of joining the football team. Lying down trying not to get tackled but still, joining the team.

The team is losing the game and Tina almost gets flattened by a tackle so morale is pretty low. Puck goes to convince the team to join the halftime show so they can play in the game and Finn goes to convince the girls to stand up to Sue. The girls join Finn and tell Sue to suck it, while the football team sans Karofsky put on their zombie makeup. It’s time for Thriller and they sound A. Maz. Ing. This is definitely up there as one of my favorite performances ever. The entire school is loving it and Karofsky can’t hide his joy at wanting to join in. He embraces it and joins in on the dance with a smile.

Katie Couric shows up to interview Sue on being the biggest loser around for losing Nationals and losing her budget to the Glee club. I enjoy the several Lohan digs that the show spews out during this scene. Sue’s bad mood must have rubbed off on Karofsky who with every step forward takes two steps back. He unleashes his inner douche and tells Finn that Glee is for losers. Quinn comforts him in the form of a kiss.

This was a GREAT return for Glee. It really got back on track and had me laughing out loud for most of the episode. Ashley Fink is amazing and I even loved Puckleberry for a moment there. What do you think Sue will do for her revenge?

Funniest Quotes of the Night

Sam: Bring it.
Finn: Brung.
Sue: That would be the boom boom without the pow. And that’s so 2000 and late.
