Charice Pempengco is back and is preparing for quite a treat for us. She’s busy preparing for a TV special for GMA-7 in time for month of love. Her special has been in preparation for a few months as the international singer was supposed to shoot “Charice: Home for Christmas” last November but it had to be postponed because she was sick, a case of stomach flu. Ogie Alcasid, Rachelle Ann Go and Elmo Magalona are some of the performers in the GMA-7 special titled “Charice: Home for Valentine’s,” which will be aired on February 13. With her lovely voice, she will have us falling in love all over again. As excited as we are to such an entertainment treat, Charice seems to be elated about her first TV special as well. Charice told the press, “Very excited po ako at very thankful. Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng sumuporta sa akin… Dapat Christmas pa po ’to pero unfortunately, nagkasakit ako. May lumalabas kasi na sinadya ko raw i-cancel pero hindi naman nila alam kung ano talaga ang nangyari. Ngayon na bumalik ako, ito ang patunay na gagawin ko naman talaga [ang special].”
Since she is all geared up to make us swoon this Valentine’s, we can’t help but wonder if this young talent has a certain Valentine this year. When asked who her Valentine date is this year, the young singer said, “Family ko po!” But she admitted that there is young new foreign singer who has expressed a romantic interest in her. Although it has only gone as far as leaving messages, she has finally gotten permission from her mom to start dating. “Si Mommy po, sabi niya pwede na po but I think hindi pa talaga. Minsan naiisip ko nga na i-try pero hindi pa talaga ako ready.”
Charice’s mom is definitely a big part of her Valentine’s. She is not only her mother but also mentor, friend, supporter and definitely biggest fan. As she was watching her daughter rehearse, she couldn’t help but cry. We all know that the mom-daughter tandem struggled through real tough times. One of the songs she will be performing in the GMA special is the song they apparently comforted themselves with when Charice felt like giving up after losing in singing competitions. “Nang time na natalo siya, depress na depress siya nun… tingnan mo ’tong kanta na ’to, pakinggan mo ’to. Ito ang magbibigay sa’yo ng inspirasyon. Kasi ayaw na niyang sumali sa singing contest,” shared Mommy Rachel to “Chika Minute” of GMA news “24 Oras.”
It makes us contemplate on who our Valentines are. We do get caught up racking our brains on how to impress our boyfriends and girlfriends. But when you think of the kind of love and sacrifice our parents has bestowed in our lives, it’s a no brainer.
“Charice: Home for Valentine’s” will air on February 13, 8:30 p.m., under the direction of Louie Ignacio on GMA-7.
